Who are the forgotten children of the Philippines?
The forgotten children of the Philippines are those who belong to poverty-stricken families in the Philippines. There are about 100 tropical storms that hit the Philippines from June through January each year. The families living in the affected areas are typically evacuated to higher grounds for safety. Most of them lose their homes and everything they own during the storm, especially those who are living at the beaches. These storms devastate the fishermen's livelihood. To find shelter, some of them settled behind the Dipolog City Cemetery in Zamboanga del Norte. To make money, they look for recyclable materials like water bottles, glass and paper to sell to buy food for their families. Others braved it and remain at beaches, the only place they know where to survive since their main livelihood is fishing. The children and their families live with very limited or no food to eat. To have clothes and shoes that fit them is a luxury. Some of the children are forced to drop out of school because of extreme poverty. |
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMHigh school students drop out of school because of poverty. The creation of the scholarship program helps scholastically talented students stay in school. The program affords the students a weekly allowance to help with their basic needs to stay in school, like food, transportation, school supplies and materials for school projects while feeding them spiritually. Our goal is to prevent these deserving students from dropping out of high school to have a chance to go to college and find a good-paying job to get out of poverty.
Imagine the impact you are going to make in these teens' lives. You will give them hope and a future as God planned it, not to mention the change in the spiritual aspect of their lives as they develop their relationship with God. |
